School Policies and Guidelines
Family Friday (as of August 2013)
We are excited to invite you to join us each Friday this school year as we launch “Family Fridays!”
Fridays have become a day when we have many visitors on campus for various activities- such as E-Time/Clusters, Mystery Readers in the classroom and more!! We want to invite you to join us, on these Family Fridays, to enjoy lunch with your child in the cafeteria (during their scheduled lunch time).
On these days, we will have additional seating to accommodate all the extra visitors, so we do hope that you will be able to be a part of these special Fridays with your children!
Our campus will be closed to visitors for lunch on Monday-Thursday! However, we do very much look forward to seeing you on Family Fridays for lunch!

Party Guidelines:
Any parties or celebrations that take the place of lunch are not allowed. Three exemption party days are permitted each school year. Candy and foods of minimal nutritional value are allowed on these days only, but meals may not be planned to take the place of school lunches. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires that all students have access to school meals daily. Austin Elementary has designated the following exemption dates for campus celebrations:
• Winter Break • Valentine’s Day • Field Day
Individual Student Birthdays:
• Students issuing invitations to individual birthday parties or other celebrations may only do so at school if all students in the homeroom class are invited. These birthday invitations must be passed out at the end of the day with permission from the teacher.
• Floral arrangements, balloons, cookie grams, etc., are not considered appropriate during school hours. Deliveries of this nature are strongly discouraged.

Other Policies to Note:
2:45 Rule
We understand that afternoon transportation plans can change. However, it is extremely important that all communication regarding changes in your child's ride home be received by the classroom teacher and office BEFORE 2:45. The end of the day is a very busy time as classes pack up and messages sent after this time will not be seen in time to notify your child of the change.
Safety and Security
The front doors remain open during the school day and are locked at 4:00 each afternoon. All side doors to Austin are locked during the day. As previously noted, the front doors open at 7:20 each morning. Students who arrive earlier than this time are not supervised so please do not drop off students before 7:20 unless they are coming in for a specific purpose such as Mustang Mutual or tutoring when a teacher will be waiting for them.
Volunteers
All volunteers or visitors to Austin Elementary must check in at the front office before proceeding to any other area of the building, including the cafeteria. Volunteers must have completed a criminal background check before volunteering on campus or acting as a chaperone for field trips. There is now an online form at the link below.
